How CruxOCM uses Findem to hire quality candidates quickly and efficiently

The challenge 

CruxOCM is a Canada-based remote-first startup with employees in Canada and the United States building software to automate heavy industry control rooms. It empowers human operators with the best tools available to perform their jobs safely and efficiently. CruxOCM is seeking top talent with highly specialized skills to help achieve its mission to revolutionize the industrial automation and control room landscape.

Struggling to fill specialized roles

As a growing startup, CruxOCM is looking to build the top of its candidate pipeline with roles you would not find on most job boards. The company plans to double in size over the next 2 years, and hire for highly specialized roles critical to the business. Given the current technology stack and small headcount, finding the breadth and depth of candidates for such roles is difficult.

Traditional tools, lackluster results

CruxOCM’s recruiting team is still being built, with the head of HR supporting hiring managers in their search for candidates. Like most small startups, CruxOCM is using Lever for their ATS, with LinkedIn Recruiter as the engine behind searching and referrals.

Hiring managers rely heavily on their networks to find potential hires, but they’d rather spend their time qualifying candidates and interviewing those who make it through screenings. Building out teams and growing the company is a priority, but not one that hiring managers can accomplish on their own.

The solution

To grow quickly, CruxOCM needed help with sourcing. They needed to grow their pipeline with candidates uniquely qualified for complex positions. They chose Findem’s Sourcing Accelerator.

A powerful sourcing tool

As the economy and the industry change, Findem makes it easy for CruxOCM to adjust and respond to micro- and macro-shifts. Toggling one or two attribute fields in the Findem platform improved the breadth of CruxOCM’s searches and helped them uncover insights into the process.

Instead of burning the budget on US-based candidates, CruxOCM used Findem to focus its efforts on potential hires in Canada. Although this greatly reduced the size of the pool, the platform gave CruxOCM the ability to filter by salary expectations, location, and specific skills — reflected in real-time for hiring managers to see.

Increased accuracy and speed

Since implementing Findem, CruxOCM has extended two offers and hired one candidate. With such granular search precision and the collaborative support of Findem’s sourcing team, CruxOCM has cut its recruiting and hiring process in half.

The outcome

CruxOCM has screened twice as many candidates in its first three months of using Findem. The roles they’re targeting — complex, industry-specific positions — aren’t easy to fill with traditional recruiting and sourcing tools.

Findem made it clear that the candidate pool wasn’t as small as the team at CruxOCM had originally thought. By changing attributes and homing in on specific skill sets, CruxOCM expanded the search to include candidates with computer science and development experience; skills well-suited to the types of roles CruxOCM hoped to fill.
